On Saturday 16th of March the George CANSA Relay for Life took place at the Carpe Diem School grounds.

A record number of 104 teams entered the Relay this year which amounted to 1350 participants. Young and old people from across all races participated in this event and came together with one aim in mind – to continue the fight against cancer until a cure is found.

The committee hosted a lunch for 150 cancer survivors and more than 1800 candles were lit around the field to remember those that have lost the fight against cancer. A total of 3221 people attended the event that officially makes this the largest charity event in the Western Cape. Teams walked from 16h00 on the Saturday evening until 05h00 on Sunday morning as part of the fund raising activities. Most teams sold either food or drinks and were entertained throughout the evening by artists. A total amount of R210 000 was raised this year for CANSA.

NMMU George Marketing students also entered a team for the second consecutive year.
