LECTURERS VISIT HILLSIDE SECONDARY SCHOOL

Members of the Business Management Department visited Hillside Secondary School on Friday the 30th of January 2015. The purpose of the visit was to enlighten the Matric class of 2015 about the courses offered by NMMU and make the scholars aware of the different financial opportunities available with regards to funding their studies. After the group presentations, informal one-on-one sessions were held with the learners with each of the lecturers in attendance.

A fun quiz was held, where small prizes were handed out to students who correctly answered questions relating to the university. Overall, the day was a great success, not only for the learners, but also for the lecturers who got to experience interacting with students in their environment.
Going into the future, more endeavours like this will be planned with schools within the Metropole. In particular, the Department wishes to strengthen our partnership with Hillside Secondary School.

A big thank you must go to Prof. Struwig and Prof. Mazibuko for their support in this endeavour as well as the sponsorship of the stationery items for the learners which can be used to write their exams. In addition, Mrs Jackie Palframan contributed the prizes for the quiz. Thank you to Mr. Sammy Douw, the Financial Aid office, who provided the financial aid information during this busy time of the year. Finally, we would like to thank the admissions department who provided qualification booklets as well as Chante Rossouw who provided the Departmental pamphlets.
