The Faculty of Business and Economic Sciences left their footprint on the international stage when they won a silver medal in the BRICS Hi-TECH INTERNATIONAL INDUSTRY COMPETITION.


The team, led by Tiaan Gerber, was made up of members:

  • Ruan Jonker (Marketing)
  • Nicholas Landman (Marketing)
  • Wikus Bezuidenhout (Finance)
  • Adrian Andrews (HR)
  • Nico Landman (Mentor & Facilitator)

 

The assignment brief was to develop an innovative project for a new product, accounting for all lifecycle stages. The product to be developed was a safe playground which minimised injuries when using swings, slides, merry-go-rounds, horizontal bars, and other gymnastic items at any time of year and in various conditions (outdoor, indoor, etc.). Other competing countries were from Russia, Brazil, India, China as well as Ghana, from Africa.

 

Tiaan had this to say of the experience, “With the combination of business, marketing, human resources, finance and engineering, the knowledge and experience gained from this challenge was invaluable. In addition, my studies as a business postgraduate student helped immensely as I was able to strategise and use the knowledge gained within the classroom space.”
