Each year the Nyenrode Business School in the Netherlands celebrates its birthday by giving the “Dies Natalis” lecture. This year the university celebrated its 68th birthday. Prof Elmarie Venter from the Department of Business Management attended the lecture.

As Prof Arie Buijs is retiring this year, he was approached to give the lecture. His lecture was entitled:

“DE NIEUWE PENSIONADO” (The New Pensioner)

Prof Arie Buijs is a Professor of Business Mathematics and Statistics. Prof Arie Buijs has been associated with the NMMU since 1994. He started as a visiting professor in Finance and Operations Management and at a later stage he was formally appointed as a permanent visiting professor Finance and Investments at NMMU.

Prof Buijs was appointed as a professor of Finance at Utrecht University and as a professor of Business Statistics at Nyenrode Business School in the Netherlands.

On the 20th of November this year, he gave his farewell speech at Nyenrode after a period of 39 years at that school. This event was attended by 3 South-African professors: Prof Bosch, former HOD of Business Management at NMMU, Prof Elmarie Venter, professor in Entrepreneurship at NMMU and Prof Suzette Venter, formerly NMMU, now professor of Finance and Investment Management at the University of Stellenbosch.
